DallasMAS March & April Meeting

I would like to encourage Guests & Members to attend the DallasMAS March Meeting at waterhog's house on March 12, 2011. Meeting will start at 1:00 PM.

March's topic will be about working with acrylic. We will have a DIY Skimmer Kit provided from AVAST Marine to demonstrate the assembly process and different acrylic bonding techniques. No project is too big or too small!!!

April's Meeting will be hosted by DallasMAS' very own, waterhog. Ed has graciously opened his house to the members and guests for this event. This will be a hands on DIY Meeting and will be an all day event. Last years DIY Acrylic build was a lot of fun, don't miss out!!!! Build anything from a Skimmer, frag tank, frag rack, Kalk reactor, media reactor, travel viewing box, or whatever else you can think of.

Why both meetings at Ed's??

Very simply put, we will be using materials that have Hazmat ratings. We must be conscious of fumes from the glue we will be using to bond the acrylic. With this in mind, our typical venues simply would not be condusive to the demonstrations at the March meeting and the build at the April meeting. Ed's workshop/garage is ideal as far as space, ventilation, and cover from the Texas elements. Fortunatley for us, he's agreed to indulge us two months in a row.

Wish I could make the March meeting, but I am taking the wife on our delayed honeymoon. I don't think I would hear the end of it if I were to suggest we postpone the trip for the meeting! I will be at the April meeting though. I think I want to do a viewing box.

Pretty much. if you need help with designing it or putting it together we can help you with that. We just want to be able to provide a location that a large amount of tools available that some people might not have.

I plan on building my AVAST Skimmer, a new sump, and maybe a frag tank.

I will be purchasing my acrylic from E&T Plastics of Texas
They are able to give you a quote over the phone and can "cut to order"
They have cast and extruded available in 4' x 8' sheets.

You can also get sheets at home depot or lowes if your in a pinch.

Will there be Weld On there for purchase or do we need to bring some? Or will it be a everyone throw in $5 and we all share???? What about the applicators needed?

I will get the address posted later...... __________________ Ed !00g reeftank w/ 40g acrylic fuge, h&s skimmer, 2- 250w Icecap mh pendant w/14k phoenix bulbs. 30g rimless reeftank(suppose to have been a cool frag tank) w/20g acrylic fuge, cheapy skimmer, Solaris I5 24" LED.
